Products
Some people prefer a very balanced weight between the tama and ken. So a few brands now offer selected kendamas with weight matching. These are usually within at least 7grams of each other.
This is said to make tricks such as moonwalks, spacewalks and lightning drops stay within their own centre of gravity, instead of veering off to one side. Though how much of an actual benefit this provides has been a debate for many years.
Take a look at all the weight-matched kendamas we offer here.
This is in reference to the clear coat of paint that tamas are finished with. Most of the time a kendama will state which finish it has in the product description. However, some kendamas will have options to ‘choose your paint’ when ordering.
If you haven’t felt what a tama paint feels like in person, it can be a little hard to understand the difference. But to give you some idea -
Sticky & LOL | this is the most common paint, it has great grip out of the box and decent durability. Feels a bit like the paint on a car.
Ratio | Starts slicker, breaks in slowly over time to increase grip and has strong durability. Feels similar to car paint but with a bit of extra give.
Cushion & Rubber | Serious amounts of grip from beginning to end but it can be harder to adjust tricks. The lifespan can be less than other options. Feels like a rubber ducky!
Matte | These are hybrids with a balance between solid grip and durability, they feel less tacky than sticky while juggling for instance. Feels like any matte paint surface you may have felt? IDK?
Natural | No paint - completely natural wood on wood. AKA ‘Natty’.
